Why is Mrs. P Posting?

Hi to all who are reading the DC field trip student's blog. I thought some clarification might be helpful for all of you who might be wondering why Mrs. P is posting and not the students. My cell phone has been beeping all day. Students are texting me and I'm transferring their words to the blog. Cell just rang - Melissa R is on the phone. She's downloading video from the FLIP cameras - thanks Mother's Club and Mr. Spicer for the cameras. Next step is to download digital pictures. WOW! I hope Melissa isn't going to try and download 13+ cameras!!! I really think that's doubtful since the word is everyone is exhausted! Oh, just heard the first set of pictures have been uploaded.

Sounds to me as if everyone is having a great time - When Melissa and Mr. M went to the Senate to pick up inauguration tickets, Melissa saw some friends she worked with when she lived in DC and she also saw my former student who works in Senator Bond's office. Mr. M had to stand in line at the House for 2 hrs. to pick up tickets.

Tommorow is another early day, breakfast is at 4:30 a.m. and off to the inauguration at 5:00 a.m.

Visit to the White House and Heading to the Hotel

Mr. M Text
6:07 p.m.

We just passed the White House. We said "goodnight" to W for his last night.

Eric Text
6:20 p.m.

We are headed to the hotel, still in the coach, we were going to try and see the Jefferson Memorial, but the traffic was ridiculous. It has been one exciting day.

More about Arlington National Cemetary

1:42 Eric text

We have finally arrived at the cemetary. It's huge and there are graves all over the place. This is by far the most graves I've seen in one place.

2:06 Eric Text

We are watching in action men of the second most prestigious honor in the military - guarding the unknown soldier. These men have pledged never to drink nor smoke nor cuss for the rest of their lives or they will lose their high honor.

A Variety of Posts

Mr. " M" texted the following:
11:16 a.m.
I'm waiting in a very long line for our tickets. I'm cold! Hey, whatever it takes to witness history. The kids are busy sight seeing.

Eric texted the following:
12:12 p.m.
We just ate at a deli, it was good, now we are standing at the spot the inaugaration is going to be held surrounded by many museums and monuments.
12:15 p.m.
It's so ceazy being here. There are all kind of people around here. It's unreal being in this environment.
12:48 p.m.
Now we are in a bus, its packed. There are 4 schools in it now. Mr. M is still getting tickets for the inaugaration. We are headed to the Arlington Cemetary.
12:58 p.m.
We are still on the bus on our way to the cemetary. It is taking patience to get through the trip but it is so fun it is well worth the hardships.

So far the view of Washington DC has been breathtaking. Since arriving 2 hours ago, we've gotten the scenic view of the airport parking lot. We are still taking in that particular sight.

Arrived

So, we arrived in DC and we've been waiting on the bus for over an hour now. We're waiting for the other school's plane to get in. The flight went pretty well. The view of St. Louis at dark was beautiful, seeing all the clusters of tiny lights, We arrived early. We couldn't figure out if we were in DC or Baltimore, Turns out that, yes, we are in DC

My Blog!

We've landed! It's all a little unreal, and it"ll probably stay that way.... (mt darb ears won't pop and it's driving me crazy!) Everyone warned us that it would be FREEZING and yet...it's really not that cold at all. In fact, I'm sweating...hopefully it'll stay this nice, on the otherhand, I may have packed to warm! Ah well, we are here, dead tired, but ready to go!

Before we left, standing in line for tickets, I came face to face with just how "historical" this trip was going to be. Already we were discussing the finer points of history...at 4:30 in the morning! Ah! Ha, buy hey, I'm glad I'll learn something and I am kind of looking forward to it. There's a lot to learn.

We Have Arrived!

We arrived in DC about 30 mins ago. The flight was smooth and we got to fly into the sunrise, it was beautiful. We are waiting now for another school.

Group to join us on our large, comfortable bus. We are going to head over to the National Air and Space Museum on the National Mall.
